The art of Isshinryu Karate originated in Okinawa. Its founder Tatsuo Shimabuku developed this system by combining what he felt were the best components of two other systems, Goju-ryu and Shorin-ryu. Practicing Isshinryu has great physical benefits such as improving your balance, stretching, learning to use both sides of your body equally, and getting a whole body workout. This physical workout combined with with the mental skills learned and the confidence gained make it a life sport. It will have a very positive effect on your personal life as you apply the philosophy of strengthening the mind and body through self-discipline, fitness, and awareness. Its great fun for kids, and an excellent way for them to learn the positive benefits of self-discipline and confidence, develop coordination, and increase strength and flexibility. Because a structure of respect is built into martial arts, children develop the ability to listen, learn, and achieve, which in turn builds self esteem. At Chuck's Gym we practice Isshinryu in a traditional manner with modern teaching strategies, always striving to perfect the basic movements and kata's {forms} of the Isshinryu system. Many of our students have used the physical and mental skills they have learned in martial arts to augment their training in other sports. Everything we teach is done in a positive way to achieve positive results. |
